Spin-A-Long

I just finished my first Spin-A-Long, or SAL as its called, for the Knitabulls and Knitting in Circles podcasts.  Using Gnomes Acres Froggy Monkey Polwarth and Silk blend, I spun it on my Trindle spindle from Trindleman. I got 136 yards of 2-ply, and 26 yards of a Navajo ply (or chain ply) both of about a worsted weight. I've only plied my yarn once before, and I was concerned it wouldn't come out right. I really like how it came out though!
There will be a Knitalong (KAL) using the two different colorways that were used for the SAL, but they will already put on yarn. Preorders for the yarn will be up in Gnome Acres shop tomorrow, May 21, if anyone would like to join along.

April Photo A Day Challenge

It's that time again when I get to share all my photos from Fatmumslim's Photo a Day Challenge!

I look forward everyday to taking a new picture, and then sharing them all!

I found out today that Mya loves pistachios.

Day 15: Sunset. What sunset? Stormy weather.

Day 16: flower. The only flowers
I have in my yard right now.

Day 17: something I don't like. I hate parking garages.
 I always think I'm going to scrape.

Day 18: hair. Mya still has bedhead.

Day 19: orange. Getting ready to go on a trip with
my new bag and my handy dandy
orange notions bag!

Day 20: something I drew. Drawing in Mya's book.

Day 21: bottle. Perfume bottle.

Day 22: last thing you bought.
A Pepsi to keep me awake.

Day 23: vegetable. Annaka's carrots at Disneyland.

Day 24: something I'm grateful for.

Day 30: something that makes me sad.
The fact that I'm 33, and I already have arthritis.

Back From Vacation!!!

We are back, and the shop is back up and running! 

I'll be adding more bags as I get them made!

And as soon as I can force myself to unpack!

Patting Myself on the Back

Every once in a Blue Moon, I find myself coming up with a brilliant  idea (at least my inner ego thinks so).

I've always loved those frames where you put your children's school picture every year. But what is a Mommy to do when her kids are in Kindergarten, First grade, or heck, not even in school yet? I have one child in school. The other not. "But they have to have matching frames!" "I want them up now!" "I don't want those ugly empty spots!", my little brat in my head screams. Then the rational part of me says, "Fix it. It can't be that hard."

Voila, an idea is born. I searched my scrapbooking stash for school-related, theme-related, or just eye-catching bits and bobs to fill the holes.  Each empty hole is taped separately on the back. So, when it's time for next year's picture, I can just untape the one section and put that year's picture in.

Word of advice: Don't tape or glue anything to the matt! Just the paper backing!
